Pirates Battle Campbell To Scoreless Draw

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team battled Campbell to a scoreless draw on Thursday evening at Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium.
East Carolina moves to 0-1-2 on the year while Campbell is 1-1-1 with the draw. The draw marks the second straight tie between the two teams with the last one coming on Aug. 25, 2024.
Both teams struggled to generate much of an attack in the first half, combining for just five shots. Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram had the Pirates' best look of the half, with a shot on goal that was saved by Campbell at the nine-minute mark.
The pace and physicality picked up the second half with two yellow cards being assessed to the Camels and one to the Pirates. Despite being outshot in the second half, Campbell looked to have a late go-ahead goal from Tyler Baughan at the 85-minute mark but she was ruled offside after video review, leaving the game locked in a scoreless tie.Â
The Pirates made one last effort to score as Lauryn Taylor sprinted down the field with the ball, drawing a yellow card on the Camels and setting up Isabella Gutiérrez from a potential game-winning free kick. After getting the free kick blocked, Gutiérrez had one final chance but the Camels' goalkeeper stepped in for the save.
Olivia Dietrich continued her strong play in the box to start the season, recording four saves on the night.
