GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team returns to the pitch this Thursday evening when the Pirates conclude their homestand against App State on Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium before traveling to Cullowhee to face Western Carolina on Sunday.
Thursday's contest is set to start at 7 p.m. and admission is free for fans. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+ with Dylan Johnson (play-by-play) and Matison Little (analyst) calling the action. Sunday's road match will also be streamed on ESPN+ and will kick off at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Pirates rallied from a 2-0 second half deficit at home against High Point on Sunday behind goals from Lily Ridge and Lauryn Taylor to force a 2-2 draw, their third consecutive draw.
Senior Day
Prior to the start of the match on Thursday, the Pirates will recognize five of their seniors in Isabella Gutierrez, Olivia Dietrich, Ella Steck, Alyssa Tucker and Sydney Cox.
Hometown Help
Lauryn Taylor currently leads the Pirates in points with four (one goal, two assists) and has made an immediate impact on the field in her first season with the program. The Greenville native and former J.H. Rose star was named American Conference Honorable Mention on Aug. 17 after assisting on both of ECU's goals in the week prior.
Denied By Dietrich
In the Pirates' season opener at Liberty, Olivia Dietrich recorded 10 saves in the box, which was the most for her in a Pirates uniform. The 10 saves also marked the first time ECU had 10 saves in a match since Oct. 13, 2019 when Melanie Stiles saved 10 shots against Memphis. Dietrich ranks first in the conference in number of saves with 18 and third in the conference in save percentage with one clean sheet. Dietrich recorded four saves in ECU's draw against Campbell, helping anchor the Pirates' defense.
Scouting App State/Series History
App State comes off of a 2-0 win at Gardner-Webb on Sunday and the Mountaineers' attack has been potent with five goals over the last three contests. Libby Bermingham leads App in goals with two and is tied with Lucy Harrington for the team lead in points with four. Hanna Skogfors has 10 saves as the team's primary goalie. ECU leads the all-time series with App State 2-0-1 with the most recent meeting coming just last season when the Pirates came out of Boone with a 1-0 victory behind a goal from Alyssa Tucker. This is only the second meeting against the Mountaineers at home for the Pirates with the other meeting resulting in a 1-0 ECU win on Sept. 14, 1997.

Western Carolina is coming off a 4-0 loss to No. 16 Tennessee on the road last Sunday and have lost two of their last three. Gabriela Vatrano leads the Catamounts' attack with two goals while Amara Yetka has tallied 17 saves on the season. ECU leads the all-time series with Western Carolina 8-1-2, winning seven in a row and earning draws in the last two meetings.
