Pirates Come Up Short at High Point, 84-68
November 16, 2025 | Women's Basketball
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team trailed by as many as 18 points in an 84-68 loss at High Point on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates made a run at a comeback, getting as close as seven, but the climb was a bit too steep to get all the way back.
Â
High Point (4-0) got off to a dream start in the game, jumping out to a 19-2 run, including hitting three of their first four attempts from behind the arc. The run forced a full lineup change for ECU (2-2) subbing out all five starters near the midway point of the first quarter in search of a spark. The spark instead came from Anzhané Hutton upon her return to the game as she nearly contributed a double-double in the first half alone with 13 points and eight rebounds, including a pair of made threes.
Â
The Pirates managed to get within 10 a few times before halftime but saw the hosts boost their margin to as many as 18 points after the break. High Point was led by a 27-point outing from Aaliyah Collins and were bolstered by another 20 points from Macy Spencer who knocked down three triples in the game.
Â
Still, ECU fought back, thanks in part to a burst of shooting from Kennedy Fauntleroy who scored all of her 17 points in the second half The Pirates got within seven points in the fourth quarter and even got a look to cut it to five near the midway point of the final frame but were never able to get that next bucket to truly make it a game.
Â
High Point closed the game on another run to reach the final margin of 16, a disappointing defeat for an ECU squad looking for momentum.
Â
Hutton finished the game with 18 points and 13 rebounds for her 12th career double-double. She also blocked two shots while making a career high three shots from behind the arc, her first career multi-three game. Jayla Hearp was the only other Pirate in double figures with her 13 points in the game.
Â
The Pirates out rebounded High Point 43-25 and recorded 15 more shots from the field, but with the Panthers shooting north of 50 percent from the floor, it was not enough. ECU also made seven threes of the game, now having made 28 on the year, the most in the first four games of a season since making 31 to start the 2016-17 season.
