San Antonio, Texas – East Carolina is set to start American Athletic Conference play this weekend when the Pirates travel to San Antonio to face UTSA beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Pirates continue the series with the Roadrunners on Saturday at 1 p.m. and conclude play on Sunday at noon. All games will be streamed on ESPN+ with Alex Loeb (play-by-play) and Cat Osterman (analyst) on the call.
ECU is coming off an impressive 2-1 win over Michigan on Wednesday as Emma Jackson's two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth lifted the Pirates past the Wolverines.
Anna Sawyer had an impressive week at the plate last week for ECU, slashing numbers of .667/1.000/.778 and recorded a hit in five of ECU's six games last week, including three multi-hit games, to earn AAC Honorable Mention.
Kanisha Anderson continues her hot start to the season, leading the Pirates at the plate with a .509 batting average and the slapper has recorded three triples already this season (14th in NCAA). Morgan Johnson has returned to form in the past week for ECU, hitting four home runs and recording nine RBI last week. The Pirates' offense has started to heat up with the long ball as 10 of the team's 21 home runs have come in their last seven games.
The duo of Taylor Apple (2.32 ERA, 51.1 IP) and Kendall Frost (3.75 ERA, 50.1 IP) spend most of the time in the circle for the Pirates, combining for 10 of the team's 12 wins.
Scouting the Roadrunners
UTSA (12-7) comes into the weekend matchup with a 10-3 mark on their home field. The Roadrunners are led at the plate by Sabrina Wick's .365 batting average and Katia Reyes leads the team in home runs with three. Kaylie Olivarez headlines the pitching staff with a 2.47 ERA and 25 strikeouts.

East Carolina leads the all-time series with UTSA 3-0 as the Pirates swept the Roadrunners in last season's conference series.
