Pirates Defeat UTSA In Eight Innings, 9-6
March 08, 2025 | Softball
San Antonio, Texas – Emma Jackson went 3-for-4 at the plate and hit the go-ahead three-run home run to get East Carolina past UTSA, 9-6, in eight innings on Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
Morgan Johnson, Annie Kate Dalton and Mary-Kathryn Scott also each hit a home run as the Pirates (14-7, 2-0 AAC) reached double figures in hits for the second straight game with 11 on the day.
After taking an early 2-0 lead, UTSA jumped in front 3-2 after a Pirate error kept the Roadrunners alive in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Just like last night's game, the Pirates had an immediate answer to UTSA's run as Dalton put the Pirates back in front with a two-run blast in the top of the fifth. Johnson extended ECU's lead to 6-3 with a two-run homer of her own in the top of the sixth but UTSA plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth and tied the game on another errant throw from the Pirates, sending the game into extras.
When the Pirates needed it, Jackson once again provided the clutch play, blasting a ball over the right field wall and giving the Pirates a 9-6 advantage heading into the bottom of the eighth.
After two Roadrunners got on base with one out, Kendall Frost forced the next two UTSA batters into outs to close out the game.
Frost (6-5) tossed a career-best eight strikeouts in seven innings of work to pick up the win.
