GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina is set to begin its four-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon when the Pirates host Norfolk State for a midweek contest at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.Â
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Patrick Johnson (pxp) and Brittany Hoyt (analyst) on the call.Â
The Pirates are led at the plate by Kanisha Anderson's .417 batting average (3rd in AAC) and the speedy sophomore leads the team with 13 multi-hit games this season. Emma Jackson, Morgan Johnson and Annie Kate Dalton combine for 30 of the Pirates' 45 home runs, which is first in the league (25th in NCAA).Â
ECU's seven home runs in the 15-7 win at Charlotte tied for the second-most home runs in a single game in AAC Softball history. ECU is one of only three teams this season to hit seven homers in a single game, joining Ohio State and UConn. Jackson's three homers tied a single-game record for home runs from an individual.  The Pirates are 15-1 this season when they score six or more runs and 10-2 when scoring in the first inning with those two losses coming at Charlotte last weekend. Taylor Apple (3.36 ERA, 84 Ks) and Kendall Frost (4.23 ERA, 64 Ks) are the two main arms in the circle for ECU.
Scouting the Spartans
Norfolk State comes into Wednesday having won its last three games with a sweep of Delaware State last weekend. The Spartans are led at the plate by Kailey Bryant, who is batting .349 and has recorded 13 RBI. Brierra Tyler leads NSU in the circle with a 2.87 ERA and 37 strikeouts.Â
Series History
ECU is 2-0 all-time against Norfolk State having last played the Spartans on Mar. 11, 2023 in the Purple-Gold Invitational that the Pirates won 7-5.
