GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina concludes its five-game homestand against an in-state rival as the Pirates host NC State on Tuesday evening inside Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Due to the threat of potential inclement weather, first pitch has been moved up to 5 p.m. and the contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Patrick Johnson (pxp) and Brittany Hoyt (analyst) on the call. The game is also the program's annual Morgan's Message game.
ECU is seeking to snap a three-game skid after the Pirates were swept this past weekend by Florida Atlantic in American Athletic Conference action. The Pirates struggled offensively all series against the Owls, combining for just 11 hits and five runs over the weekend.
The Pirates are led at the plate by Kanisha Anderson's .403 batting average (3rd in AAC) and the sophomore leads the team with 19 multi-hit games this season. Emma Jackson, Morgan Johnson and Annie Kate Dalton combine for 37 of the Pirates' 59 home runs, which is first in the league. Taylor Apple (3.19 ERA, 110 Ks) and Kendall Frost (4.01 ERA, 88 Ks) are the two main arms in the circle for ECU. The Pirates have hit 59 home runs on the season which is the second most home runs hit in a season in program history. The program record is 64 which was set in 2017. Jackson is four homers away from passing Isonette Polonius who hit 18 in 1999 for the most home runs hit in a single season.
Scouting the Wolfpack
NC State comes into Tuesday's matchup having lost last weekend's series to North Carolina. Michele Tarpey leads the Wolfpack at the plate with a .362 batting average and the Pack are one of the top teams in the country in home runs with 61 on the season. Like the Pirates, NC State has a trio of players with 10 or more home runs this year in Hannah Church (17), Kendall Simmers (11) and Taylor Ensley (10). Madison Inscoe leads NC State in the circle with a 3.34 ERA while Carly Maxton has thrown 96 strikeouts in 116.2 innings.
Series History
NC State leads the all-time series 17-9 as the Wolfpack and Pirates met earlier this season in Raleigh where NC State defeated ECU 11-5 behind three home runs.
