
Bristow Completes Leadership Institute Program

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina Athletics Human Resource Manager Corena Bristow was one of 27 participants recognized in the 2024-25 Leadership Institute with a graduation ceremony on May 14 the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce recently announced. During the eight-month program, participants get an in-depth view of community issues, develop leadership skills necessary to assume leadership roles, and are exposed to community involvement opportunities.

Bristow, who has nearly 17 years of experience working in the human resources field, officially joined ECU Athletics in April of 2023 where she works alongside staff and coaches for athletic hires in conjunction with ECU's Human Resources Department on main campus. Prior to joining athletics, she worked at Hyster-Yale as a human resources business partner (2021-23), ECU as a benefits analyst, talent and compensation partner (2013-21) and the North Carolina Department of Commerce-Division of Employment Security as a human resource generalist (2009-10, 2012-13) after graduating from East Carolina with her bachelors of science degree in rehabilitation services.

"She is a true lifelong learner who saw the Leadership Institute as an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Corena embraced the experience, actively engaging with her cohorts and making a tangible impact within the community. Her passion lies in connecting with people and pursuing endeavors that are meaningful and make a real difference"

As part of the program, Bristow and her cohorts successfully completed a community-impact project renovating the meditation/family room for The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice House. The project's objective was to enhance the care experience for patients and families, which was achieved by building partnerships with various businesses and raising funds for furniture and supplies, along with meals for the patients' families.Â

In recognition of her dedicated commitment and excellent leadership, Bristow has been invited to serve on the Leadership Institute Advisory Council, where she will help guide and support future cohorts of emerging local leaders.

The Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute strives to provide Greenville-Pitt County with an enduring source of diverse leaders who are prepared and committed to serving the community. During the eight-month program, participants get an in-depth view of community issues, develop leadership skills necessary to assume leadership roles, and are exposed to community involvement opportunities. Participants study the qualities that make an effective leader, analyze individual leadership roles, and develop personal leadership styles and skills. The program will open your eyes to new challenges and opportunities and the role you can play in shaping the future of our community and region.
Through hands-on experience, participants fully explore topics such as: education, government and law, arts and culture, economic development, health care, business and industry, and media. The program culminates with a graduation ceremony and the unveiling of the class project. Once graduated, participants become alumni of the program and continue their impact on the Greenville-Pitt County community.

The Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute has trained and graduated over 1,061 civic leaders since its inception in 1983.
