
Pirates Set for Adidas XC Challenge

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina cross country team resumes their 2025 campaign at NC State's Adidas XC Challenge on Friday evening in Cary.

The event, which draws top competition regionally and nationally, kicks off at 5:15 p.m. with the men's 6K race before the women take to the course for a 5K race at 5:55 p.m.

The field of teams in competition includes several ranked squads in the USTFCCCA Coaches Poll: No. 9 Wake Forest men, No. 19 North Carolina men, No. 3 NC State women, No. 15 North Carolina women and the Wake Forest women who are currently receiving votes. Additionally, the Lynchburg men's squad is ranked No. 20 in the DIII poll.

The Pirates competed at Elon's Friday Night Lights Opener on Aug. 29.

The women's team finished third overall in the meet, led by Abrielle Schweitzer's breakout performance in second place overall. The junior finished the 4K race with a time of 13:44.0, exactly one minute faster than she ran on the same course in 2023. She was joined in the top 10 by Kaylee McCullough in eighth with a time of 14:04.4. Katrina Ford, Erin Pope and Bella Wood rounded out the scoring lineup for ECU.

On the men's side it was a fourth-place showing as Alex Sawyer raced his way to a second-place overall finish of his own with a time of 18:25.6 on the 6K course. He was joined in the top 20 by Elliott Kleckner (15th) and Judah Lacroix (20th) while Will Palopoli and Aidan Herman rounded out the scoring lineup.
