What's at Stake
The Pirates will look to get back in the win column after a 1-1 result with UNCW last Thursday. Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram's goal gave the team a lead in the game before a 90th minute penalty allowed UNCW to steal a draw. Despite the disappointment, the Pirates do enter the contest with App State on a two-game unbeaten streak which they will look to extend.
Scouting App State
The Mountaineers enter the game with a 3-2-0 record after a pair of defeats against Clemson and William & Mary in their last two contests. Lest those be an indicator of their season, the team had previously downed Davidson, Miami and an always stout Western Carolina side. The team is led in scoring by Ellie Garrison's four goals in the first five games, scoring the game-winning goal in each of their three wins. In goal, it's been Anna Claire Jacobi getting the majority of the run with a .767 save percentage and 23 saves on the year.
Series HistoryÂ
Despite their proximity, the Pirates and Mountaineers have only met twice, back in 1996 and 1997, resulting in a draw and an ECU win, respectively. The Pirates took that September 1997 meeting by a 1-0 score in Greenville.
The Woman in Charge
After seven seasons as an assistant, Emily Buccilla takes the reins as head coach in 2025. She is the first female head coach in program history.
Home Sweet HomeÂ
The Pirates play their home contests in one of the most beautiful soccer facilities in Division I in Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium. Recently outfitted with a new scoreboard and state-of-the-art LED lighting, the venue is a great place to watch a game whether it's an early season matinee or a conference thriller under the lights. Pirate Nation has played their part of late, too. Five of the top 10 attended games in program history have come since head coach Emily Buccilla arrived in Greenville with three coming in just the past three seasons, including the all-time record of 1,335 attendees when the Pirates hosted then-No. 2 Duke in 2022.
