Pirates Wrap Up Purple-Gold Classic With 2-1 Win Over Maryland

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Sarah Stone had a two RBI double and Jenna Krol went 2-for-3 at the plate as East Carolina defeated Maryland 2-1 to wrap up the Purple-Gold Classic at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Kanisha Anderson, Anna Sawyer and Macey Ciamillo each added a hit for the Pirates, who went 3-2 on the weekend after their one-run win on Sunday.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Stone's two-run double but neither team produced much offense until Maryland got back in the game with a solo home run in the top of the sixth.
ECU managed to hold off Maryland in the top of the seventh, getting three of the Terps' four batters out to end the game.
Taylor Apple (2-2) picked up the win while Julia Apostolakos earned her first save of the year.
