Atlanta, Ga. – Anna Sawyer went 3-for-4 at the plate while Gabby Fowler hit a grand slam as East Carolina cruised past Villanova, 11-4, on Saturday at the Buzz Classic.
Kanisha Anderson and Sarah Stone also had multiple hits for the Pirates (2-1) who had 12 hits as a team.
ECU held a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning before Fowler blew the game open with her grand slam to make in 8-0 going into the third inning.Â
Villanova plated three runs in the top of the fourth but the Wildcats were unable to threaten the Pirates as ECU added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-4.
Julia Apostolakos (2-0) had another strong showing in the circle, allowing no hits and tossing two strikeouts in two innings of work.

East Carolina closes out play at the Buzz Classic with a doubleheader against Georgia Tech tomorrow at noon and 2 p.m.
