Atlanta, Ga. – The East Carolina softball team was swept to conclude the Buzz Classic, falling to Georgia Tech in a doubleheader by scores of 13-6 and 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field.

Game One: Georgia Tech 13, East Carolina 6
Jenna Krol and Chloe Geijer both hit home runs but East Carolina fell to Georgia Tech, 13-6, in a game that featured a combined five home runs from both teams.

The Pirates jumped ahead 1-0 after Kanisha Anderson scored on a single from Sarah Stone and ECU extended its lead to 3-0 on an RBI from Gabby Fowler to score Anna Sawyer that was followed by a solo shot from Geijer in the top of the third.

Georgia Tech got on the board in the bottom of the third after an RBI single from Alyssa Willer and a three-run homer from Gracyn Tucker put the Yellow Jackets in front 4-3.

Emma Simon blasted a two-run shot to extend Georgia Tech's lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth but East Carolina battled back to bring the game within a run on Krol's two-run homer in the top of the fifth.

Tucker once again hit a multi-run homer to extend the Yellow Jackets' lead to 8-5 and finished the game off with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach for the Pirates.

Julia Apostolakos (2-1) took her first loss of the year in the circle.

Game Two: Georgia Tech 6, East Carolina 2
Gabby Fowler hit a home run and Sarah Stone had an RBI double but East Carolina was unable to overcome an early 3-0 deficit, falling to Georgia Tech, 6-2, to conclude play at the Buzz Classic.

East Carolina found itself down in the first inning for the first time all weekend but the Pirates added a run in the second and third innings to make it a one-run game. The Yellow Jackets turned the momentum with a two-run single in the bottom of the third and put the game away with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Taylor Apple (0-2) tossed three strikeouts in the loss.
