GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team is set to take the field at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium for the first time in 2026 on Friday afternoon when the Pirates host the Purple-Gold Classic.
The Pirates will be joined by Notre Dame, Maryland and Buffalo in the three-day, 10-game tournament. Admission for the tournament is free all weekend for fans. ECU games on Friday and Saturday will be streamed via ecupirates.com with the Pirates' Sunday game streaming on ESPN+.
ECU will face off with Buffalo at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by a clash with Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. to conclude the first day of the tournament. The Pirates battle Notre Dame and Maryland on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively and wrap up the Purple-Gold Classic against Maryland on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
Anna Sawyer leads the Pirates at the plate with a .462 batting average while Julia Apostolakos leads the team in the circle with a 4.08 ERA and a 2-1 record.
Last Time Out
East Carolina went 2-3 on opening weekend, defeating Villanova twice but falling to Alabama and getting swept in a doubleheader against Georgia Tech at the Buzz Classic.
