GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina Pirates have a big week coming up with five games, with two midweeks. ECU will host Old Dominion on Tuesday, March 10, with a quick turnaround, heading to Williamsburg to take on William & Mary on March 11. Finally, the Pirates will host Pennsylvania for a three-game weekend series starting March 13.

Coastal Carolina Recap

The weekend series at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway saw No.16 Coastal Carolina take two out of three games against East Carolina in a competitive matchup. The series opened on Friday with a dramatic extra-inning affair. Coastal jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but ECU stormed back with a five-run eighth inning to take a late lead. Coastal managed to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth and eventually secured a 10-6 victory in the 10th inning courtesy of a walk-off grand slam.

On Saturday, Coastal Carolina clinched the series with a 7-1 win driven by dominant pitching and a late offensive explosion. Gavin Van Kempen was able to hold off the Chanticleers for a career high of 7.0 innings with 11 strikeouts. While ECU held a narrow 1-0 lead for much of the game following a first-inning solo home run by Braden Burress, Coastal broke the game open in the eighth inning. A three-run home run followed by a two-run shot from Brice Estep fueled a six-run surge that put the game out of reach.

For the stellar performance on Saturday, Van Kempen was able to receive Conference Honorable Mention on March 9.

East Carolina avoided the sweep on Sunday with a convincing 10-4 victory in a game shortened to six innings. The Pirates' offense found its rhythm early, highlighted by a massive six-run third inning that pushed them to an 8-0 lead. Jack Herring contributed a home run to the effort, with Walker Barron, Matt Lashley and the rest of the lineup to notch multiple hits. Due to weather, the last game of the series had to end early due to inclement weather, and Nick Moran earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief.

About Old Dominion

Old Dominion sits 8-6 following their weekend series against UConn. The Monarchs dropped the first two games of that set, including a tough 14–3 loss on Saturday, but they managed to bounce back with a 6-5 victory in the series' finale on Sunday. That win was fueled by a three-run home run from Maverick Stallings and a solo shot, helping the team secure a winning result before heading back out on the road.

About William & Mary

William & Mary currently holds a 5–8 overall record following a difficult start to their conference schedule. The Tribe entered conference play this past weekend but was swept in a three-game series by Campbell in Buies Creek. While they showed early offensive life in the series finale on Sunday, jumping out to a 4–0 lead behind a home run and a two-run double, they were unable to hold off a late comeback, eventually falling 8–5.

Prior to the Campbell series, the team found success at home with series victories over Binghamton and Lafayette, but they have struggled on the road, where they remain winless.
