Pirates Fall To Florida Atlantic In Series Opener, 10-1

Boca Raton, Fla. – The East Carolina softball team fell in its series opener to Florida Atlantic, losing 10-1 in six innings to the Owls on Friday night at Joan Joyce Field at FAU Softball Stadium.
Kanisha Anderson led the Pirates (17-10, 2-2 American) with two hits.
Florida Atlantic struck first in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Kiley Shelton but the Pirates evened up things in the top of the third after Jenna Krol's sacrifice fly scored Anderson.
The Owls quickly responded on Lily Holtje's solo shot in the bottom of the third to go back in front 2-1 and ECU would have a chance to tie or take the lead with two runners in scoring position in the top of the fifth but back-to-back strikeouts ended the Pirates' bid in the inning.
FAU loaded the bases and drew a walk to extend its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth and added seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
Sydney Rainford (5-3) took the loss while Autumn Courtney (9-4) picked up the win and Ainsley Lambert earned her sixth save of the year.

East Carolina will look to come back and win the series in tomorrow's doubleheader against the Owls at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
