Pirates Sweep Doubleheader To Take Series Over Florida Atlantic

Boca Raton, Fla. – The East Carolina softball team swept Saturday's doubleheader to win the series over Florida Atlantic, defeating the Owls 3-1 and 3-2 at Joan Joyce Field at FAU Softball Stadium.
The Pirates (19-10, 4-2 American) earned back-to-back American Conference series wins and have started 4-2 in the American for the second consecutive year.
Game One: East Carolina 3, Florida Atlantic 1
Kanisha Anderson went 2-for-4 at the plate as East Carolina defeated Florida Atlantic 3-1 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Pirates got on the board first after Hannah Evans grounded out to score Macey Ciamillo from third in the top of the second. Anna Sawyer and Jenna Krol hit back-to-back RBI singles to extend ECU's advantage to 3-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.
Florida Atlantic made it 3-1 on Chloe Yeatts' solo home run but Julia Apostolakos and the Pirates' defense settled in, retiring six of the next seven FAU batters and the Owls were unable to get a runner into scoring position for the rest of the game.
Apostolakos (9-4) tossed four strikeouts in seven innings for the win.
Game Two: East Carolina 3, Florida Atlantic 2
Kanisha Anderson went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI as East Carolina outlasted Florida Atlantic, 3-2, to win the season series against the Owls.
Anderson put the Pirates in front 1-0 in the top of the third with an RBI single to score Mary-Kathryn Scott and Taylor Apple and ECU's defense kept the Owls' offense at bay heading into the seventh inning.
Anderson and Anna Sawyer each hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh to extend ECU's lead to 3-0 but Jesiana Mora's two run blast in the bottom of the seventh pulled FAU within a run. Julia Apostolakos entered the game and retired the next two batters to seal the series win for the Pirates.
Apple (3-3) picked up the win while Apostolakos recorded her second save of the year.
