March 17, 2026 | Softball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team won its third straight game with a 10-1 win in five innings over Elon on Tuesday evening at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Anna Sawyer led ECU (20-10, 4-2 American) with two hits and two RBI while Kanisha Anderson, Trinity Nichols and Macey Ciamillo each had two hits as well.
Elon drew back-to-back walks in the top of the first and scored on a Pirate error, but ECU's defense rebounded with back-to-back putouts to go to the bottom of the inning.
The Pirates quickly loaded the bases and went back in front 2-1 on Gabby Fowler's sacrifice fly and Nichols' RBI on a fielder's choice.
After both teams went scoreless in the second inning, ECU scored five runs in the bottom of the third to blow the game open and take a 7-1 lead.
Lillian Martineau and Michaela Weber both batted in runs in the bottom of the fourth to give the Pirates a 9-1 lead and Sawyer's sacrifice fly extended the lead to 10-1.
Abby Huhn forced two Elon batters into ground outs and ECU's infield got the Phoenix's advancing runner at second to end the game.
Julia Apostolakos (10-4) picked up the win in two innings while Taylor Apple also threw two innings of relief.
