March 20, 2026 | Softball
Memphis, Tenn. – The East Carolina softball team saw its three-game winning streak come to a halt on Friday evening as the Pirates fell to Memphis, 2-1, in American Conference action at Tigers Softball Complex.
Trinity Nichols led ECU (20-11, 4-3 American) offensively with two hits in three at bats but the Pirates missed opportunities to add runs on the board, stranding 10 runners on the night.
Lillian Martineau got the Pirates going in the top of the second with a double and ECU jumped ahead 1-0 on Kanisha Anderson's RBI double.
Memphis responded with an RBI double after a single and a sac bunt to tie things at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning. The Tigers took the lead on an ECU error in the bottom of the third but the Pirates were able to escape the inning with two Memphis runners left on base.
ECU threatened to rally and potentially take the lead in the top of the seventh after Anna Sawyer and Jenna Krol were both hit by pitches and Gabby Fowler's ground out allowed the pair to advance to third and second respectively with two outs. The Pirates had one last chance to extend the game but Nichols grounded out to the shortstop to end the game.
Sydney Rainford (5-4) allowed four hits in the loss.
