Rainford Throws Complete Game Shutout As Pirates Defeat Tulsa, 2-0

Tulsa, Okla. – Anna Sawyer went 2-for-4 at the plate and Sydney Rainford tossed a complete game shutout in the circle as East Carolina defeated Tulsa, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Collins Family Softball Complex.
Kanisha Anderson and Trinity Nichols batted in both runs for the Pirates (28-23, 12-11 American) who were once again superb defensively, holding Tulsa to just three hits.
ECU scored its first run in the top of the first after Anderson and Sawyer both reached base to set up Nichols' sac bunt to score Anderson.Â
Rainford and Tulsa's Brinly Maples dueled in the circle all day but Tulsa had its best chance to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runners on and just one out. Rainford forced Tulsa's Emma Vickrey to ground into a double play and ECU scored its other run in the top of the seventh to extend its advantage to a 2-0 lead.
The Pirates forced three straight outs in the bottom of the seventh to set up the rubber match on Sunday.
