Lynchburg, Va. – The East Carolina soccer team opens the 2026 season with a two-game road trip, beginning Thursday evening against Liberty at Osborne Stadium and followed with a visit to UNCG on Sunday evening.
Both contests are slated for a 6 p.m. ET start and will be available to be streamed on ESPN+.
Preseason Watch List
Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram, Isabella Gutiérrez and AJ Mayock were named to the American Conference Preseason Watch List as the Pirate players to watch for conference honors this season. Gutiérrez and Dolan Boodram have made the preseason watch list in consecutive seasons.
The Woman in Charge
After seven seasons as an assistant, Emily Buccilla enters her second season at the helm of the Pirates' soccer program. She is the first female head coach in program history.
Returning Production
ECU returns its top four players in terms of point production in Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram (15 pts), Isabella Gutiérrez (10 pts), AJ Mayock (8 pts) and Alyssa Tucker (7 pts). The quartet were also the Pirates' top goal scorers, led by Dolan Boodram's five goals.
Scouting Liberty
Liberty comes off of a 14-4-4 season in 2025 and a CUSA title. The Flames were picked to finish first in the CUSA Preseason Poll with nine first-place votes and placed five players on the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team in Halle Engle, Lauren Littleton, Peyton Huber, Sallie Garner and Avenley Monteith. Engle was tabbed the CUSA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year while Littleton earned CUSA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Pirates and Flames met in Greenville in last year's season opener in which Liberty won 3-1.
Scouting UNCG
UNCG comes off of a 4-12-3 mark in 2025 and is led by SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team member Rina Ogimoto, who paced the Spartans with six goals and 14 points last year. ECU leads the all-time series with UNCG 5-4-0 and the Pirates have won the last two meetings including a 2-1 decision in 2024.
