GREENVILLE, N.C. – Alyssa Tucker scored in the 24th minute of the first half as East Carolina shut down UTSA 1-0 to earn its first win of American Conference play on Thursday night at Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium.
The Pirates improved to 2-2-6 and 1-0-1 in American play while UTSA fell to 4-2-3 and 0-1-0 in league play.
Isabella Gutiérrez picked up her fourth assist of the season on Tucker's goal and Olivia Dietrich added six saves for fourth clean sheet of the year.
UTSA threatened to score in the opening minutes on a cross in the box but Dietrich made a superb save to prevent the Roadrunners from gaining any early momentum.
ECU struck first as Gutiérrez advanced the ball ahead to Tucker who sprinted down the left side and placed her shot in the top right corner of the goal to put the Pirates ahead 1-0.
The Roadrunners amped up their attack in the second half but Dietrich and the Pirates' back line remained stout. UTSA's best opportunity came at the 64-minute mark after Lilli Denhardt got around a diving Dietrich in the box but ECU's defenders blocked the shot attempt to keep the Roadrunners from tying the game.
