ECU Opens Season at Friday Night Lights

ELON, N.C. - The East Carolina Cross Country team opens its season this weekend on Friday, September 4, at the Friday Night Lights meet hosted by Elon University. The meet is set to start with the Women's 4K at 8:15 p.m. ET, with the Men's 6K starting shortly after at 8:45 p.m. ET.
MEET INFORMATION
The season was highlighted by Abrielle Schweitzer, who earned All-Conference honors after placing 15th in the women's 6K. Schweitzer continued her strong postseason run at the NCAA Southeast Regional, recording a personal-best 20:53.3 to finish 65th and post ECU's highest individual regional finish since 2019.
ECU opened its cross-country season last year at Elon's Friday Night Lights Meet.
The Pirate women finished third overall, led by Abrielle Schweitzer, who placed second in the 4K with a time of 13:44.0. Kaylee McCullough also cracked the top 10, finishing eighth in 14:04.4.
The ECU men placed fourth, with Alex Sawyer leading the way with a second-place finish in the 6K at 18:25.6. Elliott Kleckner and Judah Lacroix also recorded top-20 finishes for the Pirates.
This year, seven women, including returners like Bella Wood and Ava Elliott, and six men, including returner Judah Lacroix, are set to see the lights on Friday evening.
