Emily Parros is in her fourth year as an assistant coach for the ECU women's lacrosse program after joining the Pirates in July of 2016.
The 2020 campaign showed signs of promise before the Covid-19 Pandemic cut the season short after just eight games. The Pirates were 5-3 in the shortened season, tying the 2019 team for the most wins in the program history. Parros saw Megan Tryniski set a new single-game ECU record when she had eight points on four goals and four assists in a comeback win over VCU. The Pirates also saw Megan Pallozzi and Ashley Vernon earn AAC Attack Player of the Week and AAC Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, after beating Campbell. Pallozzi and Vernon are now the fifth and sixth players to earn AAC Weekly Awards since the conference started sponsoring women’s lacrosse in 2019.
The 2019 Pirates finished with five victories, improving their win total by three from the inaugural campaign. Ally Stanton set a new program record with 39 points on 26 goals and 13 assists to become the first Pirate to be named to the All-AAC Second-Team. ECU continued to excel in the classroom as well, earning IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad accolades for the second consecutive year.
After helping build the ECU program during the 2016-17 academic year, Parros primarily worked with the offensive and draw units during the inaugural 2018 season.Â
Along with her duties as an assistant coach, Parros currently plays professionally for the Philadelphia Force, a member club of the United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX). Parros teamed with fellow assistant coach Lexi Cross to help lead the Force to the 2018 UWLX title.
Â
"I am excited to welcome Emily to the first-ever East Carolina women's lacrosse staff," head coach Amanda Barnes Moore said. "She brings national championship playing experience and a tremendous knowledge and passion for the game of lacrosse. She is an outstanding ambassador to the sport – participating in the first-ever women's professional lacrosse league - and I know she will use those experiences, as well as her past coaching experiences at James Madison University, to benefit our program. I look forward to having Emily mentor and teach our future women's lacrosse student–athletes."
Â
From July 2015 until July of 2016, Parros worked as a physical education teacher and the varsity women's lacrosse head coach at The First Academy in Orlando, Fla. She also worked with the Lax Maniax lacrosse club as the head coach of the 2020 class, advising and counseling players through the college recruiting process.
Â
Parros was on staff at James Madison from 2013-15, helping guide the Dukes to a 37-18 record along with two Colonial Athletic Association regular season championships, the 2015 CAA Tournament title and a NCAA Tournament appearance.
Â
A two-time captain for North Carolina, Parros rounded out her college career by being named a Synapse Sports All-American and was a member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List (nation's top player). She was also chosen for the All-Atlantic Coast Conference and ACC All-Tournament teams during her senior campaign.
Â
During her time in Chapel Hill, Parros posted 72 goals and 46 assists for 118 career points. Additionally, she picked up 104 ground balls and 101 draw controls to go with 73 caused turnovers. Parros was a two-time ACC All-Academic honoree and a member of the Rising Stars program of the Carolina Leadership Academy, which develops premier leaders in collegiate athletics.
Â
On the coaching side, Parros assisted with the UNC Elite Camp and Rising Stars Camp for four years in Chapel Hill. In 2011, she helped coordinate and organize schedules and drills for the Nike Lacrosse Camp and, in 2010, she coached with the Phantastix Lacrosse Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Â
Parros attended Strath Haven High School (2005-09) in Rutledge, Pennsylvania, where she set the national records for points (695) and assists (289).Â
Parros is married to former UNC Track & Field and USA Track & Field sprinter Clayton Parros, who is currently coaches track & field at the University of Mount Olive.
