Lexi Cross is in her third year as an assistant coach after joining the ECU women's lacrosse program in August of 2016.
Â
"Lexi has always displayed tremendous energy and passion for the sport of lacrosse," head coach Amanda Barnes Moore said. "I have followed her conference championship and award-winning playing career at James Madison and I know she will bring the same competitive spirit and dedication to this program. She is a tireless recruiter and an excellent tactical defensive coach. I know she will contribute positively to our women's lacrosse program and the East Carolina community."
After helping build the ECU women's lacrosse program during the 2016-17 academic year, Cross primarily worked with the Pirates' defensive unit during the inaugural 2018 season.
Along with her duties as an assistant coach, Cross spent the summer of 2018 playing professionally for the Philadelphia Force of the United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX). Cross teamed with fellow assistant coach Emily Parros as the pair helped the Force win the league's 2018 title.
Â
Cross arrived in Greenville after spending the 2016 season as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb. There, she served as the team's recruiting and compliance coordinator. She was also responsible for film breakdown and gameday preparation.
Â
During the fall of 2014, Cross served as an intern with the James Madison Strength and Conditioning program where she assisted with all aspects of the training program for football, golf and swimming and diving.
Â
As a three-year starting defender for the Dukes, Cross helped propel JMU into the top 20 nationally and was a team captain as a senior. She earned numerous accolades that season, including preseason Third-Team All-America honors, All-Colonial Athletic Association First-Team recognition, all-region laurels and a spot on the ECAC Division I All-Star First Team.
Â
During her junior year, Cross again was recognized as a first-team all-conference and all-region selection while also garnering CAA All-Tournament Team honors. She was also tabbed the league's Defender of the Week April 14 for her standout performances at conference foes Delaware and Towson.
Â
In addition to her success at the collegiate level, Cross was invited to try out for the 2014 United States National Team in 2014 as well as the United Women's Lacrosse League earlier this year.
