ECU Golf Wins Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate

Sixteen teams participated in the second annual fall tournament hosted by East Carolina. The Pirates led all teams after the yesterday's first and second rounds and today held on to the lead to claim victory. The Pirates' best round of the tournament was yesterday's first round in which they shot 296. Margaret Mitchell led the team with a second place finish in the morning round, shooting 72, one stroke over par.
After round two of the tournament, Mitchell had moved into a three-way tie for first place along with Augusta State's Leah Hart and Western Carolina's Rebecca Twiner. Western Carolina had the best tally in round three (298), but it was not enough to close in on the Pirate lead, and the Catamounts took home the second place prize with a total score of 913 (305-310-298). The top five was rounded out by Xavier, Augusta State, and James Madison.
Hart took home the individual title, shooting 67 in the third round for a final of 212 (73-72-67). The all-tournament team consisted of Hart, Twiner (69-76-73-218), Jayme Langford of James Madison (76-72-72-220), Lindsey Sims of William and Mary (75-75-75-225), Line Cordes of Western Carolina (76-77-72-225), and Jessica Krasny (74-80-71-225) and Mitchell (72-73-80-225) of ECU.
The Pirates placed five golfers, including Alyssa Hayes, who is playing individually, in the top 20.
The Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate was the final fall tournament for the women. They will return to action in the spring of 2003 when they travel to Pinehurst, N.C., to participate in the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Collegiate Classic hosted by the College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington. That tournament is set for February 28 - March 2 at Pinehurst Number Eight.
