October 29, 2002 | Men's Golf
ECU finished with a two-round score of 570 (288-282), marking the second consecutive year that the Pirates finished second in the tournament. The men were 10 strokes behind the leader, Penn State University, which finished with a score of 560 (288-282).
Jason Harris won the individual title, with a two-round score of 135. Harris shot 68 in the opening round, and 67 in the final round. It was also the second year in a row that a Pirate golfer claimed the individual title. Now Assistant Coach Frank Adams, III won the event last year.
Adam Howell also finished in the top 10 in a tie for seventh, while Will Pope earned a top-20 finish at 14th.
"I'm really proud of the way our guys played this fall," said ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams. "We had three second place finishes and one first place finish, which made for a successful fall. I'm also really proud of Jonathan Hill and Jason Harris earning individual titles in the past two tournaments. This is a great team, and I'm pleased with the progress we are making."
The Georgetown Hoya Invitational was the final tournament of the fall season. The Pirate men will begin play on March 10-11 at the Coastal Carolina Intercollegiate in Myrtle Beach, S.C., to begin the spring season.
