The Pirates finished the opening two rounds with a score of 617 (311-306), 21 strokes behind the leader, Penn State. The Nittany Lions, ranked 28th nationally, had a two-round score of 596.
Heidi Helliesen, in her first appearance for the Pirates, led the team with a two-round score of 151 (74-77) and a tie in sixth place. Adrienne Millican had the second best finish for the team shooting 153 (79-74) in a tie for 10th place.
"As a team, we did not play well today," said ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams. "I was really proud of the way our freshman played today. Heidi in her first collegiate tournament had the best score for us and all the freshman really stood out today. Hopefully we can come back with a better day tomorrow."
The final day of the 2002 Nittany Lion Invitational will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Penn State Blue Course on Sunday.
