Women's Track Team Signs Two for Fall 2003
November 26, 2002 | Women's Track and Field
Lindsey Rosales (Washingtonville, N.Y.) is a pole vault jumper at Washingtonville High School. She is regarded as one of the top pole vaulters in New York state history. As a freshman, she showed her competitive spirit in winning the New York State Class A outdoor title in the pole vault. Last season she posted a personal best of 11-4, as well as jumping over 11-0 on several occasions during the year. She finished second at the NYS indoor championships as well as the prestigious Bishop Loughlin Games. Rosales has earned three silver medals in state competition during her career.
"Lindsey is a great addition to our track & field program," said Munson on today's signing. " We're excited for the competitive drive that she brings to the team and the talent she adds to a growing corps of vaulters at ECU. She has that fearless attitude that all great vaulters have and we can't wait to get her in Greenville."
Alesia Walters (Raleigh, N.C.) is transferring from St. Augustine's College in Raleigh. Walters is the 2002 North Carolina state 4-A champion in the shot put and the 2001 state silver medalist. Her personal best throw of 46-0 in the shot ranks as the number one throw in NC state history, while her best of 136-11 ranks seventh all-time in state history.
"Alesia's arrival will continue the strong tradition of Pirate throwers in collegiate track & field," remarked Munson. "From All-American Michelle Clayton in '99 to NCAA qualifier Margaret Clayton and ECAC champ Crystal Frye in '02, to the young women we have now, ECU throwers have always been a formidable presence at meets across the country. Alesia's work ethic and desire to be great fall right in line with the history of success we've had in the throws."
The Lady Pirates begin their indoor track season December 7, at the Maryland Invitational.
