August 21, 2002 | Women's Track and Field
Kaiser served this past year as assistant coach for men's and women's track and field at DePaul. He has previously held similar positions at Purdue, Clemson, Wake Forest, and Kansas. During his career, he has coached 24 NCAA All-Americans, 78 NCAA Championship qualifiers, and 36 conference champions in four different conferences. Along the way, his athletes have posted two NCAA records and nine conference records, as well as posting marks good enough to rank as the best collegiate men's pole vault trio in NCAA history.
Kaiser served on the staff of the 1989 NCAA men's indoor fourth-place team while at Kansas and the 2001 Big Ten indoor women's champions and 1999 Big Ten outdoor women's champions while at Purdue. His career has also provided opportunities to serve on several conference runner-up teams.
"We are very excited to have David Kaiser join our staff here at ECU," Munson stated. "David brings a wealth of knowledge and championship experience to our program, from his ability to coach highly technical events to his ability to recruit at the very highest levels across the globe. Above all, David is a great addition as a person. He has the values and quality of character that we look for in both our coaches and our student-athletes. He will be an asset to our staff in many ways. It's a real testament to the continuing development of our program to have a coach like David Kaiser come on board," he added.
At ECU, Kaiser will coach the throwers and pole vault events as well as coordinate the Pirates' national and international recruiting.
This past year, East Carolina's women finished fourth in Conference USA indoor competition and seventh in the outdoor championship meet in their first year in the league.
