Georgetown Hoya Invitational Washed Out
October 27, 2003 | Men's Golf
LEESBURG, VA. -- The East Carolina men's golf team finished the rain soaked Georgetown Hoya Invitational tied for sixth after posting a first round 298.
The tournament, being held at the par-72, 6,643-yard Lansdowne Resortt in Leesburg, Va., was called off due to unplayable course conditions that reduced the 36-hole tournament to 18 holes.
The Pirates (36-34-3) were one of 12 teams participating in the 36-hole tournament.
Penn State and Richmond University collected co-championship honors after firing rounds of even-par, 288. Host school Georgetown posted a six-over 294 to claim third place.
Senior Pirate Jeff Crowe posted a 18-hole, two-under par 70 to claim a share of third place. Penn State's Ted Neville and Richmond's Tyler Randol shared first place with a three-under 69. Fellow Nittany Lion, Greg Pieczynski finished tied for third with Crowe.
"I was pleased with the way Jeff played on Sunday," said ECU assistant coach Frank Adams, III. "Today, we were looking forward to competing in the final round and making a run at the tournament title. The team came out focused and had a great attitude, but the weather just wouldn't hold off."
The Pirates have concluded its fall schedule and will return to action on February 16-17, when they participate in the Rio Pinar-UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
