Women's Golf Finishes Third at UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational

The Lady Pirates had the lowest score of all participating teams in the third round (287) of the tournament, to pull within just two strokes of the winner, but finished in third place with a combined score of 887 (306-294-287). The women were 15 stroked back after round one, in seventh place, but moved up to third place after round two with a score of 294. Indiana won the tournament, finishing at 885, and Campbell came in second place at 886.
Jessica Krasny won the individual title, her second of the spring season. She finished with a three-round score of 210, shooting under par in all three rounds. Krasny shot a 70 in round one, 71 in round two, and a three under par 69 in round three to win by three strokes. Freshman Heidi Helliesen finished in 12th place with a score of 222. She was the second highest finisher for the Lady Pirates.
"We put forth a valiant effort to win this tournament," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "Unfortunately the first round, being 15 strokes back, really held us back. But, I am really proud of the way we played to try and come back and win this tournament. Jessica Krasny played so awesome this week. Her short game was so sharp; she was amazing on the greens. Heidi Helliesen also played well for us and I am proud of her efforts as well. Hopefully we have put ourselves in a good position as we go to Georgia next week. We will hopefully play well there so that we will have a chance to qualify for the NCAA's, which was a goal we set for ourselves this season."
The women will travel to Athens, Ga., on April 4-6 to play in the Liz Murphy Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Georgia.
