
Men's Golf In First Place At Pirate Fall Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - When the dust finally settled after the first day of the Pirate Fall Intercollegiate, the East Carolina men's golf team found themselves in first place with one round remaining after posting a second round score of 281, three-under par. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 7,101-yard Bradford Creek Golf Club and is co-sponsored by Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express.
The Pirates (16-35-1) head into the final round with a four shot lead over Gardner-Webb (287-291=578) and a five shot lead over third place Charleston Southern (290-289=579).
Individually the Pirates have placed six golfers in the top-20 and occupy the first three positions with senior Adam Howell (73-66) and junior Robin Smith (66-73) sitting in a tie for first with a 36-hole score of 139. One stroke behind the leaders tied for third are ECU's Philip Reale, II (71-69) and David Smith (71-69) at 140, with Gardner-Webb's Rory McCaughna in fifth at 142 (70-72).
ECU's Martin Nicholls and Ryan Solan are tied for 17th with a score of 145. Final round action will begin Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at Bradford Creek.
