
ECU's Helliesen Currently In First At Beacon Woods

BAYONET POINT, Fla. ? Junior Pirate golfer Heidi Helliesen posted her second consecutive round of two-under par 70 and is currently in first place with 18-holes remaining at the Beacon Wooods Invitational. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,015-yard Beacon Woods Country Club in Bayonet Point, Fla.
After the second round of play, Helliesen (70-70=143) holds a one-stroke lead over UCF's Asshley Grier (69-72=141) who posted an even-par round of 72. There are four Pirates (5-10-0) that are in the top-20, and fellow Pirate Adrienne Millican is just three stokes back in fifth place with a two-day score of 143. Freshman Emelie Lind is tied for 17th with a total score 149, while Michelle Williams (75-75=150) is tied for 20th.
In the team portion of the tournament, the Pirates (291-293=584) are one stroke behind tournment leaders Coastal Carolina who shot a posted a second round 297 score. Defending champion USF (592) is in third place with Georgia State just two strokes behing the Bulls at 594.
This year's tournament features 11 teams including the defending champions from USF. The field consists of UAB, UCF, USF, Stetson, Southern Miss, Louisville, James Madison, Georgia State, Florida International, East Carolina and Coastal Carolina.
"I'm proud of the way the team came out and played today," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "We just need to be consistent tomorrow and we should be in a good position to win."
Final round action will begin with a shotgun start on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 9 a.m.
