
ECU's Howell In First at Franklin Street Invitational

East Carolina men's senior Golfer Adam Howell tied an ECU school record by firing a six-under par 66 in the opening round of the Franklin Street Partners Invitational. Howell has a one shot lead over Rhys Davis (E. Tenn. St.) and Ray Sheedy (Charlotte). The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,285-yard Finley Golf Course.
Fellow golfer's Phillip Reale, II is tied for 26th while Martin Nicholls is tied for 38th and Chris Ault and Brandon Pace are tied for 41st.
"We are just playing some inconsistent golf right now," said ECU head golf coach Kevin Williams. "Hopefully we will be able to put a good round together on Saturday and get right back in the tournament."
The Pirates are currently ninth in the nine field tournament. First round leader Virginia posted a round of 283 and is two strokes ahead of Georgia Southern 285.
Second round action will begin Satuday morning at 8 a.m.
