GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina senior Jason Harris (Clemmons, N.C.) is one of 82 recipients named 2004 Golf Coaches Association of America All-American Scholars, announced today by Cleveland Golf.
To earn Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar status, student-athletes must be a junior or a senior and participate in at least 70 percent of their team's competitive rounds while maintaining a 3.2 grade-point average and a scoring average under 76.
Harris finished the 2003-04 season with a 74.7 stroke average playing in 12 tournaments with three top-10 finishes. His best finish came in the Pirates first tournament of the season after posting a 54-hole score of 216 to claim a share of fourth place at the First Reliance Intercollegiate. In June, Harris was named to the 2003-04 Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
"I am extremely proud of the effort Jason has put in the classroom and on the golf course," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "He represents the type of student-athlete we want in our golf program and it makes recruiting more like him easier when these awards come out."
Harris, a two-time recipient, became fifth Pirate to be named an All-American Scholar by the GCAA. In 2003, Harris and fellow golfer Calle Andren (Balsta, Sweden) became the first to claim All-America Scholar Honors since Kevin Miller of Erwin, N.C., was selected in 1997 and 1998.
