GREENVILLE, N.C. ? East Carolina women's golfer Margaret Mitchell (Raleigh, N.C.) has been named to the NCAA Division I All-Scholar Team, announced today by the National Golf Coaches Association. Mitchell, an accounting major, is a three-time recipient of this award, and is one of 318 women's golfers nationwide to be named to the All-Scholar Team.
The criteria for selection to the All-Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 (3.40 for seniors) and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
"I am very proud of what Margaret has accomplished in the class room as well as on the golf course," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "She symbolizes what Pirate golf is all about and has been a key fixture in building our program."
Mitchell, competed in all 10 events for the Pirates this past season. She completed 30 rounds in competition with a 18-hole stroke average of 79.4, third best for the Lady Pirates. She had one top 10 finish and two top 20 finishes in 2003. Mitchell, also was named to the 2003-04 Conference USA Honor Roll and in April, she was named ECU's Most Outstanding Female Scholar Athlete.
