
Women's Golf Finishes 11th At Cougar Invitational

HANAHAN, S.C. ? The East Carolina University women's golf team finished in 11th place today at the 2004 Cougar Classic after posting a third round score of 307. The tournament, which was hosted by the College of Charleston, was played at the par-72, 6,031-yard Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C. Nationally ranked (No. 25) Louisiana State won the tournament, finishing the two-day event with a final score of 873 (288-295-290).
The Pirates (5-10-0) , who finished ahead of Kentucky, Maryland and No. 29 Florida State, shot a two-day total of 914 (295-312-307) and finished 41 strokes behind the leader. Tennessee (876) finished three strokes behind Tigers, while Furman (881), Virginia (883) and Wake Forest (887) rounded out the top five.
"Despite a poor finish, there were a lot of positives in this tournament for us," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "The team showed me they can compete with the best in the country and I am really excited about this season."
ECU senior Adrienne Millican finished in a tie for 24th place, finishing the tournament at 225 (71-78-76).
The women will return to action Oct. 1-3 when they travel to Tampa, Florida to compete in the Beacon Woods Invitational.
