
McCallion Nets Two Goals In Women's Soccer Win

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- Senior Meghan McCallion netted a pair of goals including the game-winner in double-overtime as East Carolina defeated Southern Miss, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Pirates improve to 6-9 overall, 2-3 in Conference USA while Southern Miss falls to 4-6-1 overall, 1-4.
In the first period, McCallion (Long Island, N.Y.) put the Pirates ahead on an unassisted goal, at the 30:04 mark.
Southern Miss had an opportunity at the 50:11 mark, as Kalee Silovsky shot to the left side of the net, but Amber Campbell (Frederick, Md.) saved the goal. Two minutes later, Carly Barkley had an opportunity, but her shot was also saved by Campbell.
Southern Miss had another golden opportunity at the 70:36 mark, as Sara McFadden's shot was saved by Campbell at close range and a shot by Barkley was also saved by Campbell close to the net at the 70:44 mark.
At the 86:49 mark, McFadden netted her fifth goal of the season, off an assist from Barkley, to knot the game at 1-1, which was the score as regulation ended.
ECU was outshot 5-2 in the first period and 9-3 in the second.
After a scoreless first overtime period, McCallion scored on an unassisted goal at the 113:24 mark for the Pirate win.
For McCallion, it was seventh and eighth goals of the season and she now has 38 career goals and 94 career points, which tops ECU's all-time lists.
The Pirates will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 21 when they play host to Tulsa at Bunting Field with a 4 p.m. start scheduled.
