GREENVILLE, NC - East Carolina head golf coach Kevin Williams announced today the signing of Tanner Briele to a National Letter of Intent for the 2006-07 season.
Tanner, who is currently ranked 75th nationally by the Golfweek National Saragin Junior Rankings, qualified for the U.S. Junior this past summer and in October finished 12th in the Golf Week Junior Invitational for the top-100 players in the country.
The New Bern, N.C. native placed third in the 2004 Carolinas Junior Championship, was selected to participate in the 2004 Carolina-Virginia team matches, won the 2005 EJGA Tour Championship and was a semi-finalist in the 2003 NC Junior Championships.
"Tanner is a great golfer and we are very fortunate to have sign with ECU," said Williams. "He will make an immediate impact next year and I expect him to have a wonderful career. His experience and success at the national level will bode well for Tanner and the Pirates."
The Pirates (35-31-2) will return to action next year when they participate in the 2006 Wexford Intercollegiate in Leesbury, Va. on Feb. 27-28.
