GREENVILLE, N.C. - A pair of East Carolina golfers, Lene Krog and Philip Reale, took home Player-of-the-Week honors in the month of September, Conference USA officials announced Monday afternoon.
Krog, a freshman from Lier, Norway, was named C-USA Women's Golfer-of-the-Week (Sept. 21) after competing in her first collegiate event at the Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate. Krog guided the Pirates to a top-5 finish while recording a top-3 finish of her own. In second round action, she carded a four-under par 68 which included four birdies, no bogeys while hitting 17 greens. For the event, she posted a three-over par 219 (77-68-74) just one stroke off of second place.
Reale (Glenville, W.Va.) was named C-USA Men's Golfer-of-the-Week (Sept. 14) after he guided the men's team to a top-5 finish at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate. Reale, who recorded his sixth career top-5 placement, posted an ECU and Mid Pines low round record of 65 during the final round. His 54-hole total of 209 (73-71-65) ranked fifth best in ECU history and the 54-hole team total of 858 (290-288-280) ranked third-best in school history.
The Lady Pirates will be back in action Oct. 1 when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to participate in the UK Wildcat Invitational. Reale and the men's squad are participating in the Adams Cup of Newport this week in Newport, Rhode Island.
