GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina women's golf team is set to host the 2006 Lady Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. on Oct. 20-22 at the par-72, 6,232-yard Bradford Creek Golf Club.
The Pirates (4-10-0) finished 11th in their first tournament of the 2006-07 season three weeks ago at the Wildcat Fall Invitational after carding a 54-hole score of 977. Freshman Ana Maria Puche finished tied for 32nd (85-76-79=240) to lead the Pirates, while Lene Krog claimed a share for 50th (79-84-82=245).
This year's tournament, formerly the Taco Bell Intercollegiate, features 20 team and consists of Augusta State, Appalachian State, Birmingham-Southern, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, Gardner-Webb, Georgetown, High Point, Longwood, Methodist College, Old Dominion, Radford, UAB, UCF, UNC-Greensboro, Maryland, UTEP, Western Carolina and Winthrop.
In last year's event, Katie Stepanek of Maryland took home the top individual honors after posting a 54-hole score of 211 (69-67-75), the lowest score in the tournaments six-year history. In the team portion, Augusta State made it back-to-back tournament wins beating Georgia State by five strokes. Their tournament score 875 was the second-lowest team score in the events history.
First and second round action will begin Friday and Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m., while the final round will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
