GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's Ana Maria Puche (Barranquilla, Colombia) carded a one-under par 71 and currently sits in a five-way tie for second place after the first round of the 2006 Lady Pirate Invitational. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,232-yard Bradford Creek Golf Course.
The Pirates (4-10-0) posted a team score of 300 and are in eighth place, six shots out of third place, which is held by Elon (294). Brigmingham-Southern, who currently sits in first with an even-par round of 288, has three golfers in the top-10 with Sara Hunt leading the individual portion of the tournament with a two-under par 70. Jill Stupiansky (71) is tied for second and Jordan Hardy (72) is tied for seventh.
Laura Jansone (ETSU), Jullianne Kim (UTEP) and Danielle Mills (Elon) join Puche and Stupiansky in the five-way tie for second.
Fellow Conference USA member UCF (291) is second, three shots off the lead, while UTEP (295) is in fourth, followed by Maryland and Western Carolina who share fifth place.
Pirate freshman Abby Bools (Hickory, N.C.) is tied for seventh after 18-holes with a score of 72, while Jessica Hauser (Germantown, N.C.) is tied for 27th, Michelle Williams (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) is tied for 88th and Kristen Billings (Wilmington, N.C.) is tied for 97th.
Participating as individuals for ECU are Shawn Kelley (Cincinnati, Ohio) who is tied for 99th and Melanie Granville (Pinehurst, N.C.) who is 101st.
Second round action will continue Saturday morning starting at 7:30 a.m.
