VENICE, Fla. - Former East Carolina standout Adrienne Millican carded her third consecutive round of 74 (2-over-par) Thursday and is currently tied for 18th place at the Venice LPGA Sectional Qualifying Tournament at Plantation Golf and Country Club.
Millican, who tees off at 8:50 a.m. Friday, sits just three shots back off the top-10 with a 54-hole total of 222 (74-74-74). The two-time first-team All Conference-USA and C-USA All-Decade selection is vying to become a full member of the LPGA Tour.
Tara Bateman of Chandler, Ariz., shot a 1-over-par 73 in Thursday's third round and holds a one-shot lead going into the final round. For the second straight day, Bateman is one of only two players currently under-par for the tournament as she holds a one-shot lead over South Korean Hae-Jung Kim.
The first two days, players competed on both the Bobcat and Panther courses at Plantation Golf and Country Club, playing each of the courses once before the 36-hole cut was made. The final two rounds are played on the Bobcat Course and the top-30 players and ties at the end of 72 holes will advance to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., Nov. 29-Dec. 3.
The Venice qualifier is the second of the LPGA Tour's two sectional qualifying events in 2006. The first was at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., two weeks ago. The top-30 finishers and ties from each qualifier join current LPGA Tour members attempting to improve their status and the players who finished sixth through 15 th on the final 2006 Duramed Futures Tour money list at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
