Krog Claims Top-Five Finish

AUGUSTA, Ga. - East Carolina sophomore Lene Krog carded a second-round score of 73, one-over par, to claim her first top-five finish of the 2006 season at the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational presented by Georgia Pain Specialists, LLC. The tournament was being held at the par-72, 5,954-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.
The Leir, Norway native, who competed in just her second tournament of the year, finished tied for fourth with a tournament score of 151 (78-73) five strokes behind individual tournament champion Amanda Smith of Augusta State. Joanna Klatten (Georgia State) claimed a second place finish with a three-over par 147 (73-74), while Memphis' Dawn-Marie Conaty (150) was third.
The Pirates (20-37-0) finished in third place with an event score of 619 (311-308), 13 strokes behind tournament champion Georgia State (606). Host school Augusta State (615) was second, while Memphis finished fourth with a score of 627.
Joining Krog atop the leaderboard were fellow Pirates Abby Bools (78-75=153) and Ana Maria Puche (75-80=155), who finished in seventh and eighth respectively. Jessica Hauser shot a tournament score of 162 (82-80) to finish tied for 24th, while Michelle Williams (165) ended up with a share of 32nd place. Playing in her second career collegiate tournament, junior Melanie Granville (197) finished 40th.
The tourney marks the end of ECU's fall schedule. The Lady Pirates will open their spring slate Feb. 18-20, 2007 with the Papa John's Collegiate Championship at Don Shula Golf Club in Miami, Fla.
