Lady Pirates Open Outdoor Track Season at Shamrock Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. - East Carolina women's track athletes earned 11 individual top 10 finishes, including a pair of third-place standings, to highlight the Lady Pirates' participation at the season-opening Shamrock Invitational over the weekend at the Coastal Carolina Track & Field Complex.
Junior Lindsey Rosales and sophomore Chante Sessoms each finished third in the pole vault and long jump events, respectively. Rosales recorded a vault of 3.50 meters while Sessoms established a new personal record with a leap of 5.49 meters.
In all, seven of ECU's top 10 performances came in the field events. In addition to Rosales and Sessoms' accomplishments, freshman Danielle Eiler finished in the top six in three separate events - shot put (12.03 meters/6th), discus (41.87/5th) and the javelin (37.08/5th).
Junior Chelsea Salisbury set a new personal record with a hammer throw of 50.43 meters to earn a sixth-place standing while junior Emily Thompson was 10th in the discus with an effort of 37.55 meters.
Sophomore Aisha Bilal-Mack headed the Lady Pirates' track performance with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash after clocking a time of 58.66. Sessoms led all ECU sprinters in the 100-meter event with a clip of 12.74 (sixth). Other standings of note were turned in by freshmen Hollie Brooks (9th/800 meters/2:22.49) and Jaslyn Grullon (7th/100-meter hurdles/16.34).
East Carolina will return to action next weekend when it participates in the Aggie Relays on the campus of North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C.
