
Helliesen Tied For 14th At NCAA East Regionals

Browns Summit, N.C. - East Carolina senior golfer Heidi Helliesen currently sits at one-over par (145), which is tied for 14th place after finring a three-under par 69 second round score at the 2006 NCAA Women's Golf East Regional. The regional, hosted by Wake Forest, is being contested at Bryan Park Golf Club (par 72, 6,386 yards). The 54-hole event began Thursday and ends Saturday, with the top eight teams out of the 21 team field advancing to the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Fellow Pirate Lene Krog was the only other ECU golfer to shot an even round or better on Friday when she carded a 72, which puts her in a tie for 50th place at 151. In the team portion of the Regional, ECU sits in 19th place with a 36-hole score of 608 (313-295).
LSU has a 36-hole total of 576, even par and enters the final round with a two-shot lead over Tennessee. California is seven shots off the pace in third place. Florida State is fourth at 10-over par 586 and Alabama rounds out the top-five with a 12-over par 588. Arizona State is two shots behind Wake Forest in seventh, with a 591, 15-over par and North Carolina is eighth with a 16-over par 592.
Alabama's Jenny Chu continues to lead the tournament after shooting a second round 70, two-under par. Chu has a 36-hole total of 139, five-under par. Mandy Goins is joined in second place, one stroke behind, with Tennessee's Marci Turner.
Final round action begins Saturday at 8:00 am. Wake Forest will tee off on the 10th hole beginning at 8:10 am. Livestats can be found at www.golfstatresults.com.
