NORFOLK, Va. - The East Carolina women's soccer team gave it all they had in their season opener against Old Dominion Friday night, losing 1-0 in overtime. The winning goal was scored in the 99th minute of play when junior Katie Watson scored on a pass from Jenni Purdom.
The Pirates (0-1) were outshot 20-5 in the contest, but ECU goalkeeper Amber Campbell held her own throughout the game saving six shots. Freshman Kami-York Feirn tallied the only two shots on goal for the Lady Pirates but could not put one past goalkeeper Lauren Tupman.
ECU freshman Jessica Swanson and Amy Szilard each recorded a shot in their Pirate debut.
The Pirates will continue on the road to Buies Creek, N.C., to play Campbell on Aug. 28. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
