Jessica Swanson, Tara Shaw, and Kelly Lightfoot and Jillian Moore all knotted goals in Monday's game between East Carolina (1-1) and Campbell University (0-2). The Lady Pirates racked up 16 shots, 13 of which were on goal, and ended up scoring five times.
Swanson's game winner came on a rebound off corner kick in the 58th minute. The second goal that was scored was credited as an "ECU own goal". The East Carolina forwards constantly attacked the net causing havoc for Campbell University.
Amber Campbell got her second straight start in net and did not allow a goal in her 77:27 as the goalkeeper. Freshman Jen Kurowicki got her first experience in a collegiate game, closing out the final 12:33 to complete the shutout. The Fighting Camels put three shots on net during the contest, and Kurowicki was credited with her first save as well at the 87:39 mark when Aletheia Cam Fadness put a bid on net.
"We ended up tied going into halftime as Campbell really played us tough in the first half," said Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth. "After we scored the first two goals we started receiving and handling the ball under pressure much better."
ECU will finish up their road trip this Friday, Sept. 1 when they travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to play Western Carolina. The Pirates hope to be above .500 before they play their first home game of the season on Sunday Sept. 3 against Charlotte at Bunting Field. Kick-off time on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m, while the game on Sunday is slated for a 1 p.m.start.
