SAVANNAH, Ga. --- East Carolina concluded the fall portion of its 2007-08 schedule Tuesday with a sixth place finish at the Mizuno Southbridge Intercollegiate being held at the par-72, 6,922-yard Southbridge Golf Club. The Pirates finished the 54-hole event with a team total of 863, seven shots behind team champion Georgia Southern (856).
ECU sophomore Tripp Brizendine fired a two-under par 214 (71-70-73) to earn a tie for eighth place. Classmate Tanner Briele, one of only two Pirates to shoot par or better in the final round, carded a two-over 218 (74-72-72) and tied for 22nd with teammate Andre Thorsen (76-68-74).
Junior Markus Leandersson turned in ECU's lowest round of the day with a one-under 71 and finished the tournament with a five-over 221 (74-76-71) in 32nd place. Senior Chris Ault placed 45th overall with an eight-over 224 (69-75-80).
Individual medalist honors went to Winthrop's Kelly Mander, who shot a 14-under par 202 to defeat Western Carolina's Matt Cook by four strokes.
The Pirates will resume play in February at the Wexford Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
